About Me
I’m a woman born and raised in the Bronx, and like many others from here, I’ve got a familiar story to tell. Growing up in the Bronx during the late '80s and early '90s wasn’t easy. The neighborhood was rough, but it was also full of heart. It was the kind of place where everyone knew your name—and you knew theirs. We looked out for each other, even when the world outside was chaotic.
Art became my escape. From the age of five, I was drawing, writing, and letting my imagination run free. I had a deep love for the arts, and I was lucky to have parents who saw that spark in me. They did everything they could to nurture it, making sure I had the mentors and experiences to shape my path.
I studied at places like Alvin Ailey Dance School, School of Visual Arts, Art and Design High School, and Teachers & Writers Collaborative. I earned my degree in Graphic Design at Wood Tobe-Coburn and found my way into the fashion industry, where I’ve built a 25+ year career. I’ve been involved in every part of the journey—from concept and design to production, sales, and working directly with buyers, factories, mills, and retailers.
But my story doesn’t end there. I created Meli Micah Design Studio to give back—to offer what I didn’t always have: a safe, creative space where young people ages 15–25+ can discover their gifts, learn the ins and outs of design and business, and take control of their futures.
Meli Micah is more than a studio—it’s a community. A place to grow, to learn, to be inspired, and to turn your creativity into something real. Whether you're dreaming of being a designer, artist, or entrepreneur, I’m here to help you believe in that dream—and bring it to life.
I hope I can be a part of your journey. Let’s build something powerful—together.
